February 15, 2019

Use this EPIC laser talk to make global appropriations requests to your senators in person, or with their foreign policy aides.

Engage: U.S. partnerships with developing nations has saved and improved millions of live around the world. Republicans and Democrats have worked together to improve health, education, and help build brighter futures in many poor nations.

Problem: But we have more work to do since as 15,000 children still die each day of preventable causes, 263 million children & youth who should be in school are not, and tuberculosis kills 1.6 million people annually.

Inform on the Solution: Members of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee (SFOPS) will soon be considering spending levels for fiscal year 2020 and they need your input.

Call to Action: Will you please speak and write to the leadership of SFOPS and ask them to include the following funding levels in their spending bill for FY2020 (choose 1 or 2)?

-$900 million for Maternal and Child Health, including $290 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance

-$250 million for Nutrition programs in Global Health

-$400 million for scaling up U.S. efforts to control and treat TB and drug-resistant TB

-$1.56 billion for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

-$125 million for the Global Partnership for Education within Basic Education

This funding represents a compassionate and pragmatic approach to global development that will improve lives, bolster U.S. economic growth, and improve our national security. We have already weighed in with the House, and now the Senate has a chance to speak up for these key priorities. Can you let us know which of the requests the senator will include?

Stay in action and up-to-date.
