World leaders pen open letter denouncing judicial targeting of Muhammad Yunus

Washington DC, September 1, 2023—On August 28, over 170 global leaders including RESULTS founder, Sam Daley-Harris, signed an open letter to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decrying the ongoing judicial persecution of Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, recipient of the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal, and former RESULTS Board Member. For over a decade, Professor Yunus has been the target of an investigation widely considered baseless and politically motivated. Over 100 Nobel Laureates signed the letter (alongside Daley-Harris, and RESULTS board chair Kul Gautam). World leaders issued a similar appeal in March 2023, though the government of Bangladesh recently escalated its judicial targeting of Professor Yunus precipitating the need for this newest letter.

His contributions and integrity remain an inspiration to me and to the entire RESULTS network,” said Dr. Joanne Carter. “We stand in solidarity with Professor Yunus and are deeply concerned by these threats to his safety and human rights. We hope that rule of law will soon prevail, freeing him to continue his groundbreaking work to end poverty.”
