Thanks to bipartisan congressional leadership, U.S. to release $600 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
The State Department promised to send owed funds for lifesaving vaccines.
Washington, DC, July 29, 2026 – The U.S. Administration has committed to release $600 million in overdue appropriated funding for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
“Congress and advocates across the country have consistently rallied behind Gavi because it delivers results. Since 2000, Gavi has helped countries vaccinate more than 1.2 billion children and avert more than 20.6 million deaths in some of the world’s poorest communities,” said Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund. “We welcome the release of these funds and appreciate the bipartisan congressional commitment that made it possible.”
Earlier this year, uncertainty surrounding contributions from the U.S. and other donors forced Gavi to recalibrate elements of its 2026–2030 strategy, cutting planned investment in lifesaving immunizations. The release of these U.S. funds will allow Gavi to restart critical work, including expanding the rollout of the hexavalent vaccine (which protects children against six diseases with fewer injections) and the expansion of malaria vaccines. It will also help preserve resources for emergency vaccine stockpiles needed to respond to disease outbreaks and other public health threats.
“The release of these funds helps fulfill commitments that Congress already funded through the FY25 and FY26 appropriations process,” said Carter. “Moving forward, we urge the Administration to ensure that future appropriated funding is delivered in a timely and predictable manner. Congress has made its bipartisan support for Gavi clear, and carrying out that intent without delay will allow Gavi and its partners to maximize impact and save more lives.”
