House moves disastrous reconciliation bill forward, RESULTS calls on the Senate to strongly oppose it

The House passed by a razor-thin margin a devastating package of cuts to key programs. The Senate must now refuse to pass the reconciliation bill into law.

Washington, D.C., May 22, 2025—Earlier today, the House passed a domestic policy agenda with the slimmest possible margin of 215 to 214. This bill contains myriad provisions that would devastate the economy and the lives of everyday people. As all eyes turn to the Senate, RESULTS calls on senators to summarily reject this legislation.

“That this disastrous bill passed with such a small margin in the House is a testament to advocate action,” said RESULTS Executive Director, Joanne Carter. “We know the people do not want to see Medicaid slashed. We know they don’t want children and families kicked off food assistance. We know they don’t want expanded tax credits that exclude the very families that need them most. The Senate must listen to constituents. They serve the people, and the people say an emphatic ‘no’ to this draconian bill.”

There are many provisions in the House bill that undermine economic justice and balloon the national debt. The RESULTS network urges the Senate to especially:

  • Reverse Medicaid cuts that strip health care away from 8.6 million people, many of whom are children
  • Reject the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) reductions and work requirements designed to rob people of food assistance
  • Expand the Child Tax Credit in a way that it does not leave behind the 17 million children trying to survive poverty
  • Refuse changes to tax credit eligibility that eliminate the benefit for U.S. citizen children
  • Repeal tax breaks for those with the most wealth at the expense of those with the least while ballooning national debt

“RESULTS and its partners will not back down. We thank the members of Congress who continue to stand strong against this harmful bill. For others, we call on you to listen to your constituents and your conscience. Do not allow the reconciliation package to become law,” said Carter.
