Escalating famine and violence in Gaza demand immediate action

The Israeli government has been using food and medicine as tools of war. RESULTS calls on Congress to take a stand alongside the global community.

Washington, D.C., May 21, 2025—The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached a horrific state after two months of complete aid blockage by the Israeli government. The civilian toll is heartrending and staggering. Famine conditions in Gaza have become one of the direst human-manufactured crises in recent history. Babies and young children are bearing the greatest burden of this collective punishment and flagrant violation of international law. The U.N. has warned that if Israel does not relent on aid in the next couple of days, 14,000 babies could die.

“RESULTS calls on Congress to take immediate action to ensure the Israeli government stops this humanitarian atrocity,” said Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS. “We have worked for 45 years with lawmakers of all political leanings to improve global health, especially for children. We must come together again to end this preventable catastrophe.”

While the Israeli government pledged to begin allowing basic aid into Gaza soon, it also intends to expand military ground operations. Further violence will only worsen the civilian toll of this conflict, and aid must resume now, not later. Waiting even a few days is a death sentence for so many of the children and families of Gaza, as the U.N. warns.

“The Trump Administration’s dismantling of foreign assistance has left more than 60,000 metric tons of food aid moldering in warehouses all over the world. Still more global aid is stuck just outside Gaza, as the people of Gaza face famine. The U.S. must also join global peers like France, Canada, and the UK in moving toward concrete action if Israel does not lift aid restrictions immediately,” continued Carter.
