End TB Now Act passes Senate with strong bipartisan support

Advocates call on the House of Representatives to pass the bill into law immediately.

Washington DC, September 19, 2024—Today, the Senate passed S.288 The End Tuberculosis (TB) Now Act via unanimous consent. This is a critical step forward in the fight to end TB, the deadliest infectious disease on the planet. With no dissent, the legislation sailed today through the Senate with robust bipartisan support.

“We are so grateful for the committed leadership of Senator Young and cosponsors who have championed ending TB, as well as Foreign Relations Chairman Cardin and Ranking Member Risch for their efforts to get this legislation over the finish line in the Senate,” said RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter. “I also want to thank the national network of RESULTS advocates and partners for their tireless advocacy. TB continues to be a pernicious cause and consequence of poverty. The End TB Now Act will catalyze vital scaling up of treatment and diagnosis. It will also help ensure accountability as programs aim to reach those affected by the most severe poverty. These are communities that are most at-risk for the catastrophic effects of TB.”

With The End TB Now Act through the Senate, the House of Representatives must act to pass the bill into law.

“Children and families suffering every day in the shadow of the TB pandemic need swift action from the House,” continued Carter. “We thank Representatives Bera and Salazar for continuing to champion this important legislation. As a network, RESULTS will continue to raise our voices for this bill. I urge the House Leadership to take action quickly to pass the End TB Now Act into law.”
