Bipartisan End Tuberculosis Now Act will accelerate progress against the world's deadliest infectious disease
Legislation establishes the end of TB as “a major objective of U.S. foreign assistance,” with bold targets and a clear framework for impact and accountability
Washington DC, June 11, 2026—RESULTS welcomes the bipartisan End Tuberculosis Now Act, led by Senators Todd Young (R-IN) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), which would strengthen U.S. leadership in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
The End Tuberculosis Now Act would accelerate progress against TB by setting ambitious, measurable goals, and supporting countries and communities most affected by the disease. The legislation requires annual reporting to Congress and evaluation of U.S.-supported TB programs to ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable impact. After massive disruptions to TB programs in 2025, this new legislation re-establishes global TB as a major U.S. government priority.
“TB continues to be a pernicious cause and consequence of poverty,” said Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund. “I’m deeply grateful to Senators Young and Shaheen for their leadership, and I’m confident this bill will garner broad bipartisan support in Congress. The End TB Now Act will ensure support and accountability for the U.S. government to help countries reach all those with TB, especially communities facing the most severe poverty, saving lives and moving us closer to ending this deadly epidemic.”
The bill ensures the adoption and scaling up of promising new innovations, including portable digital X-ray technologies, rapid molecular diagnostics, and artificial intelligence-assisted screening tools, as well as shorter, safer drug regimens. It also establishes a bold research and development agenda for future TB tools.
“As a TB survivor, I know families affected by TB can experience profound, often unseen suffering from a disease that is preventable and curable,” said Tenzin Kunor, RESULTS Global Policy Senior Associate and Co-Chair of the Tuberculosis Roundtable. “The End Tuberculosis Now Act brings us closer to a future where people are diagnosed earlier, can complete treatment successfully, and have the opportunity to live healthier and happier lives free from TB.”
The bill also strengthens efforts to ensure uninterrupted access to quality-assured TB medicines and diagnostics by supporting the Global Drug Facility (GDF). The GDF helps countries secure lifesaving treatments at lower cost, prevent stockouts, and accelerate access to new drugs and diagnostics, particularly for drug-resistant TB. The End Tuberculosis Now Act also strengthens the U.S. partnership with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and other global partners.
“The Administration included bold global TB goals in the America First Global Health Strategy, but achieving those goals will require much greater focus and investment,” said Carter. “The End Tuberculosis Now Act provides a roadmap to make these goals possible. As a grassroots network across the U.S., we’re ready to work with Congress to get this bill into law.”
