The RESULTS Conferences show the power of raising our voices together
The first time I attended a RESULTS Conference, I was hooked.
Hundreds of attendees were gathered in a room that hummed with energy. Amidst all the speakers, workshops, and preparations for a day on Capitol Hill, I connected with so many people who shared my passion to fight poverty, improve health care, nutrition, and education, and create a better world.
I was grateful to have the opportunity to spend more time with other RESULTS volunteers, get to know them, and understand why they do this work, too. It made me realize I wasn’t alone. Advocacy can be hard and discouraging at times. It’s an amazing feeling to be with so many other advocates excited about what we’re doing. There is strength in community.
The next year, I went back. And another year, and another.
It’s been a number of years since the last in-person RESULTS conference, so I was over the moon when I found out RESULTS is hosting a National Conference from July 12-14. I immediately texted everybody in my group as soon as I heard.
At each conference I attend, I feel inspired and prepared for meetings with congressional offices. We listen to high-level policy experts who equip us with in-depth information to go to Capitol Hill. We hear facts and stories about different issues and learn more about how to reach policymakers effectively and find common ground. We receive training on writing to the media. Between the workshops and the expert speakers, I always feel well supported by RESULTS.
Being at the RESULTS Conference has always been a highlight of my year, and I can’t wait to be around so many RESULTS volunteers again. We can inspire and encourage each other. We can remember that even though there are a lot of difficult things going on in the world, we’re still together doing the best we can to make things better. That will be especially meaningful this year amidst the political challenges.
The conference is for everyone, whether you’ve been to many or have never attended one before. If you’re on the fence about coming to Washington, DC, I would highly recommend it. You will not regret it. You will leave feeling informed and inspired by what you experience there, and it will be worth your time, resources, and effort. I can’t wait to see you there!
