Here's what you accomplished in 2018!
As we close the books on 2018, I wanted to stop and take a minute to thank you for all you did to make it a hugely successful year.
We faced many threats throughout the year, from proposed cuts to global anti-poverty programs to policy changes in the U.S. that would have left millions of Americans hungry. But you fought back, stopping these devastating changes. Your support unleashed an army of volunteer advocates to protect and expand programs that address the key drivers of poverty.
Here are some of the amazing things you made possible in 2018:
- Biggest ever global commitment to fund education. A sustained campaign by RESULTS advocates across the globe led world leaders to make a record-breaking commitment to fund education through the Global Partnership for Education.
- Increased funding for global anti-poverty programs. Your support not only helped stop the severe cuts to these programs proposed by the White House, but drove increases in funding for tuberculosis, maternal and child health, and education.
- World leaders commit to bold action on TB. After the first-ever high-level UN meeting on TB, leaders committed to reaching 40 million people with treatment by 2022.
- Stopped harmful cuts to SNAP (formerly food stamps). Congress passed a bipartisan farm bill that left out changes to the program that would have left American families hungry.
- A majority in Congress signed on to support maternal and child health. 263 members of Congress from both parties signed onto the Reach Act, bipartisan legislation that will help end maternal and child deaths in low-income countries around the world.
After so many attempts to cut funding for SNAP and foreign anti-poverty programs, we could have taken huge steps backward. But instead you showed what’s possible, even increasing funding for many life-saving programs! I can’t thank you enough for everything you made possible.
