Special Schedule Change Note for JulyOn July 9, we'll be joining the U.S. Poverty campaign advocates at the time of their usual monthly webinar/conference call – 12:30 pm ET. So our national grassroots webinar/conference call that day will be a joint "all call" with our whole national advocates network. It will be a wonderful time of sharing and celebrating across the network. Please note and plan for this one-time schedule change. Connection information is the same as always: https://www.fuzemeeting.com/fuze/f2988286/30204806. Or to join by phone only, dial (201) 479-4595, meeting ID 30204806. Great Memories of the International Conference. Now, the Follow-up!1. As you know, your advocacy work isn't done until you follow up. So now's a great time to follow up on all the terrific work done at the International Conference! Think about the outreach you did to House and Senate offices as the conference concluded, and make a plan soon with your team to follow up with each office with whom you met. Then please report each of your lobby meetings through this form. You might want to have copies handy of some of the support materials we had at the conference related to the Reach Every Mother and Child Act as well as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and you'll find them on our website. 2. Many of you, as part of your conference follow-up or to help include others who couldn't make it to DC, are engaging in in-district and/or in-state meetings with legislators. Excellent work! We're all in it together. 3. A new advocacy opportunity that became available as the conference unfolded is a Senate sign-on letter in support of the Global Fund. When you make your call to your senator's office, you might say something like this: I am calling to ask the senator to sign onto a letter supporting a strong U.S. commitment to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Annually, 1.2 million people are dying from AIDS-related causes, 1.5 million from TB, and over 400,000 from malaria. We can do better. The Global Fund has the potential to save up to 8 million additional lives as part of its on-going work and legacy. This September, the Global Fund will hold its Fifth Voluntary Replenishment Conference in Montreal to secure the resources it needs. Would the senator be willing to take a look at a copy of the Senate sign-on letter and consider adding his/her signature? Then, check out the editorial packet we'll use to support Global Fund replenishment! (Stay tuned for even more on this important campaign.) 4. Catch up on the great social media coming out of the conference by taking a look at the conference hashtag #Voices4RESULTS. Also, enjoy the shared photo album for the IC via Eversnap: http://eversnapapp.com/i/bopjryd7. Code to access is 2016IC. Finally, keep an eye on the International Conference resources page for session materials and presentations from the event. Reach Act Progress1. We have surpassed our goal of 150 cosponsors on H.R. 3706, the Reach Act . . . and the number is still climbing! Also, we have gotten 313 media hits on the Reach Act coast-to-coast. You have done spectacular work! So, the next moves:
Check out the resources mentioned and more on our maternal/child health issue page as well as on our media toolkit page. Road to Rio Fundraising Challenge ExtendedWe need to kick our "race" into high gear in this final month, and we know we can do it! The money we raise will benefit the advocacy work we are already doing. This campaign is a fun and easy way for us to all be fundraisers and celebrate the global collaboration of the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro. This is the first time we are coordinating with RESULTS affiliates in the UK and Canada on a collective fundraising effort. You can get started by setting up your personal friends and family page here: https://friendraising.donorpro.com/campaigns/322. If you need help setting up a page, contact Grassroots Fundraising Associate Jen DeFranco. What's more, through the incredible generosity of one of our board members and his family, between now and August 5 – deadline extended to the start of the Olympics! – if we collectively raise $35,000 through the Road to Rio Fundraising Challenge, an additional $15,000 contribution will be donated. Final Hours to VoteRESULTS & RESULTS Educational Fund is looking to fill one grassroots board position to serve a term of three (3) years beginning in July of 2016. (There are four grassroots board seats in total.) Grassroots board members represent the volunteer body on the Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of the Board. It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to work with the Executive Director in shaping the direction of RESULTS, advising on major policies for the organization, and providing fiduciary oversight. The Executive Committee of the Board is the primary governing body of the organization. Members meet frequently by conference call and are in communication via e-mail and telephone calls. Members must be able to participate at this level and are expected to chair or serve on a Board Committee(s) as well as participate in fundraising for the organization. Grassroots board members play a particular role in representing grassroots perspectives on the board. Our grassroots board candidates include Tadeo Melean Weiner (Kansas City U.S. poverty group), Maxine Thomas (Indianapolis U.S. poverty group) and Charles Wallace (Austin global poverty group). You may vote for one candidate. Remember voting ends Tuesday, July 5 at midnight ET. Click here to view candidate bios and statements. After you've reviewed the materials, click here to vote. |
