Got as Long as It Takes? VOTE!

Today is the day. The most anticipated mid-term election in recent memory has arrived. We won’t waste your time with a long essay on how important it is for you to vote – you already know that. So, please go vote.

TAKE ACTION: Take as long as it takes today to go cast your vote. Remind elected officials that it is the people who are the sovereigns in America. If you’re not sure where to vote, go to www.vote.org to find your polling location.

Got Ten Minutes? Plan for the National Webinar on November 13

Join us for the RESULTS November 2018 U.S. Poverty National Webinar next Tuesday, November 13 at 8:00 pm ET (delayed a week because of the election). We, of course, will debrief about today’s election results and what it means for our U.S. Poverty Campaigns. We’ll also talk about harnessing the amazing energy and intensity around the election to move people into action on our issues. This will be an important webinar to attend. Please join us.

TAKE ACTION: Take ten minutes to prepare for the RESULTS U.S. Poverty National Webinar next Tuesday, November 13 at 8:00 pm ET. Confirm if, when, and where your group will meet for the webinar. If you are not meeting together, encourage people to join on their own. To join, login at: https://results.zoom.us/j/873308801 or dial either (929) 436-2866 or (669) 900-6833 and then enter Meeting ID: 873 308 801. The slides for the webinar will be available next Tuesday on our National Webinars page. If you have questions or need help, please contact Jos Linn.

Got Twenty Minutes? Talk Up RESULTS Tonight and Be Ready for New Volunteers (Election Season Action)

Outreach is a vital component in our mission to end poverty. To survive, movements must learn, adapt, and grow. That cannot happen alone. New people bring new power, new energy, and new perspectives. Sam Daley-Harris knew this was essential when he started RESULTS in 1980 – regular outreach was one of the “agreements” new volunteers signed up to do.

Many of you will be watching the election returns tonight, perhaps alone or with friends. As you wait for the results roll in, use that time to talk to others about becoming an advocate. If you’re at a party, strike up a conversation about what people plan to do after the election. Share about your work with RESULTS and let people know if they want to learn how to influence policy beyond the ballot box, you can show them how. If you’re alone and following the election on social media, share posts or tweets about continuing the momentum regardless of who wins.

RESULTS has lots of outreach resources to help you engage new people before and after the election, including an exciting new initiative. VolunteerMatch is an online resource to help people find volunteer opportunities in their area. Beginning tomorrow, RESULTS will post a VolunteerMatch ad for each RESULTS group around the country. When someone responds, they will first be directed to our new Welcome Series and then to our New Advocate Orientation Webinar. After that, we will connect them directly to you, our local volunteers, to get involved. All you need do now is wait and be ready. When we send you a new lead, reach out promptly and welcome them. For tips to help you, review this new guide.

TAKE ACTION: Take twenty minutes to continue your election season outreach. If you’re attending an election watch party tonight, converse about people’s post-election plans, what you do with RESULTS, and how to get involved. Also, share RESULTS actions and information about local meetings on social media. Our Election Season Action has tips to help you with outreach and follow-up from these conversations. And review our Volunteer Match outreach guide for suggestions on welcoming new volunteers from our VolunteerMatch push.
