U.S. Poverty Weekly Update November 25, 2019

November 25, 2019

Quote of the Week

“Easing the tax burden on low-income Americans will help our neighbors afford housing, medical bills, and food. Access to housing creates stronger communities as folks are able to plant roots and build a life.”

– RESULTS Denver volunteer Christie Renner in an November 17 letter to the editor in the Boulder Daily Camera

Got a Few Minutes before Thanksgiving? Send a Letter to the Editor to Help Workers and Families  (November Action)

Last week, Congress passed and President Trump signed another continuing resolution to keep the government funded through December 20. This gives Congress another month to finalize the FY2020 budget and possibly pass a tax bill along with it (while also taking this week off). Sadly, low-income workers and families don’t have the luxury of postponing paying the bills. But we can make it easier for them to pay them. Congress should expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) and put money in the pockets of workers and families who need it most. As you plan to gather with family and friends this week, take a few minutes to submit a letter to the editor supporting the millions of Americans who may have trouble filling the Thanksgiving table this year.

TAKE ACTION: Will you take two minutes to submit a letter to the editor telling your members of Congress to expand the EITC and CTC in any new tax bill this year? Use our updated online media alert, complete with a holiday hook, to send your letter today.
