Subject: Time to meet to discuss investing in girls’ education?

Dear __________,

I hope you’re well. With International Women’s Day around the corner on March 8, I thought the [newspaper name] editorial board might be interested in looking at the issue of girls’ education globally and how it relates to us here in [your city or state].

I’m part of a group of local volunteers working on global poverty issues (www.results.org). We work closely with our elected officials in Washington, and I know how important your voice is in shaping their decisions.

The world still has a long way to go on education—particularly reaching young girls. In places like South Sudan, a woman is more likely to die in childbirth than she is to finish 8th grade. Fortunately, we can do something about it this spring: the only international organization focused on education, the Global Partnership for Education, is inviting donors like the U.S. government to make pledges to help get girls in school around the world.

Might you be available for a quick meeting to discuss the latest in global education and its impact on all of us? I’ve attached some brief background information on the issue and what it means for us in [your city or state]—politically, economically, and morally.

Thanks in advance. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

_________
