New Global Fund Report: 4.9 Million Lives Saved

According to a new report released today by the Global Fund to Fights AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, as of December 2009, the Global Fund has saved 4.9 million lives, and continues to save at least 3,600 lives each day. Join Senator Brown on Our Conference Call This Saturday! Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

Sen. Brown will be our special guest on Saturday’s global grassroots conference call. He is well-known to RESULTS as a TB champion. He introduced the first global TB bill and a new domestic bill. He’s the leader in fighting for increased funding to fight TB in the annual foreign aid spending bills. Sen. Brown is also a champion for on worker rights, fair trade, and domestic heath issues. Join us on to hear the senator’s perspective on ending tuberculosis worldwide and why you are so critical in this fight! We’ll share powerful stories relating to our work and get helpful information on how to raise awareness and build support this month when we mark World TB Day on March 24.

Joanne Carter Testifying Before House Committee This Thursday!Dr. Joanne Carter

This Thursday, March 11, Joanne Carter, the executive director of RESULTS/RESULTS Educational Fund, will be testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Africa and Global Health Subcommittee. She will be an expert witness on for a hearing titled “U.S. Investments in HIV/AIDS: Opportunities and Challenges Ahead.” She will be joined but other expert witnesses and Global AIDS ambassador and actress Debra Messing. The hearing starts at 10:00 am ET and may be available live on webcast — visit the committee’s website on Thursday to look for a link.

Sister Giant Conference Joins RESULTS!

The last weekend of February, hundreds of women filled the conference area of Los Angeles’ Sheraton Gateway Hotel to participate in “Sister Giant: Rousing the Sleeping Giant of American Womanhood.”  This conference, led by renowned author and RESULTS Educational Fund board member Marianne Williamson, focused on the empowerment of women and helping them (re)discover their voices in the world on behalf of others. To ensure that our assistance is as effective as possible, we must elevate and strengthen USAID. I applaud Secretary Clinton’s call to “rebuild USAID into the world’s premier development agency.”  We must also make good on President Bush’s pledge to double the size of the USAID foreign service, a goal that President Obama has also endorsed.
