ACTION: Critical Support Needed for the Global Fund — Help Us Today to Create a Breakthrough!

Ask your representative to sign a letter to Obama urging him to make a three-year pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) initiated a letter to the president asking him to make a three-year committment for fiscal years (FY) 2012, 2013, and 2014 of $6 billion to the Global Fund.

Our goal is 100 signers! Click here to take action today. Share this link with your community.

What the U.S. does can make or break the replenishment. This fall, international donors will gather to make three-year funding commitments as part of the Global Fund’s replenishment process. As the founding contributor and largest donor to the Global Fund, a strong pledge from the U.S. will help leverage additional contributions from other donor countries. Historically, every $1 from the U.S. has been matched by $2 from other sources. Other donors are looking to the U.S. for cues on their committments. What message will President Obama send?

We are continuing our work to increase FY11 funding for the Global Fund above what the president requested, but it’s a difficult time to find millions, let alone billions. But this letter could be a breakthrough: if the president makes the pledge, he would then include significant funding for the Global Fund in his FY 2012–14 budget requests.

Check your inboxes and our blog later this week for an update on the House subcommittee mark-up of the FY11 appropriations bill.

Remember: Congress is on recess this week. Staffers in D.C. have more time to consider this request. Try to get a meeting with your member in the district or visit a town hall event where they will be speaking.

ACTION: Extra Time to Urge Senators to Sign the Senate World Bank Letter!

Great news! You’ve done such amazing work getting cosponsors for the Senate letter to the World Bank on microfinance, the Senate offices are willing to leave the letter open longer so that they can keep collecting signatures! The December 2008 World Bank letter from the Senate had 20 signers — you surpassed that number already this year with 21!

Click here to take this action today! Share this action with members of your community!
