Weekly Update | Week of July 9, 2018

Quote of the Week

"I have always been taught to stand up for the rights and needs of others. I became an advocate for RESULTS because I want to use my voice to create change."

 – Jalileh Garcia, RESULTS Advocate

Quick Action

Take Action: Ask Senators & Reps. to Cosponsor and Lead on the Reach Act!

RESULTS International Conference – Participate From Home!

  • Livestreaming. Go to our new link for more on select sessions being livestreamed during the conference, and stay tuned for archived footage of these livestreams on the RESULTS YouTube channel after the conference is over.

  • Ask Your Local Group if You Can Help. Check to see if you can dial into a meeting they are holding with a legislator on Advocacy Day (July 17) or if you can send along a letter on the Reach Act to be hand-delivered to your senator(s) or representative.

  • Follow Along on Twitter. Find us at @RESULTS_Tweets.

  • Donate to the International Conference Scholarship Fund. The 2018 RESULTS International Conference (July 14-17) is an incredibly valuable opportunity for a RESULTS volunteer, and we don’t want any of our advocates to miss out on this experience because of the cost. That’s why we created the International Conference Scholarship Fund, which helps cover the costs of registration, transportation, or lodging for those who wouldn’t be able to attend without it. We strive to extend the opportunity for growth and inspiration to every RESULTS volunteer. Your tax-deductible gift will help make that possible.

If You're Attending . . .

Reach Act, #LettersGetLoud, and You

We are committed to getting this legislation passed. Keep up your excellent work.

As of July 10, we have 41 states and 167 legislators showing up on the House version of the Reach Every Mother and Child Act (H.R.4022) and 22 states and 28 legislators showing up on the Senate version of the bill (S.1730). This is due in no small part to your advocacy.

This legislation will make U.S. efforts on maternal and child health the best they can be through coordination, efficiency, and bold goals. But we need even more cosponsors and champions in Congress to move this bill. Get senators and representatives to cosponsor the Reach Act, and if they are already cosponsors, move them up the Champion Scale by asking them to advocate for and lead on the issue. Current cosponsors have a real stake in this legislation – encourage them to help gain the support that's necessary.

  • June Action Sheet and Meeting Guide Still Useful. Set an outreach goal and use this helpful guide to create a powerful Education and Action Meeting in your community, utilizing the energy of #LettersGetLOUD to enroll new members in taking action. Your group can learn more about RESULTS and about the Reach Act, creating letters that can be delivered to senators' and representatives' offices. These letters will be a clear call from your community: Congress must get the Reach Act passed!

  • Write. Have you written a letter to the editor on the Reach Act? Do you have 15-20 minutes? Use our online action to write a personalize letter and get published. You can also use our editorial packet to pitch editors or as raw material for writing your own piece for submission.
