Glad You Are Here!

Joanne CarterHi everyone. This is Joanne Carter, the executive director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund. As we close out this training, I want to join my colleagues in welcoming you to RESULTS. We are thrilled to have you join us. Ever since the founding of RESULTS, we’ve had a long history of making a huge difference in the lives of people living in poverty. Earlier you heard our history, some of our successes like the Oklahoma Miracle, how we work, and how you will influence Congress. Through these RESULTS basics, you have begun training yourself to be an effective advocate for the end of poverty.

I got started as a volunteer in RESULTS 20 years ago, and I’m still learning every day. As you use your training and the ongoing support we will provide, I urge you to push yourself to do things you’ve never done before — and things you never thought you could do. And don’t worry if you get frustrated or disheartened along the way. Be patient with yourself and remember that changing the world takes a little time!

As we close this training, I’ll leave you with a quote from Gandhi:

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

The struggle for social justice can feel like a rollercoaster sometimes, with ups and downs and in-betweens. But knowing that you’re trying to make the world better makes it well worth the ride. Your commitment and efforts are very important. We look forward to working with you to make big things happen!
