Statement on the Confirmation of Ambassador Mark Green as Next USAID Administrator
Washington, DC, August 3, 2017 — In response to the Senate confirmation of Ambassador Mark Green as the new Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund, released the following statement:
I commend the Senate for taking action this week to confirm Ambassador Mark Green as the leader of USAID. Throughout his career in public service, Ambassador Green has been a champion for U.S. leadership to fight poverty and disease around the world. I can think of no better person to lead this transformational work, to ensure continued bipartisan support for foreign assistance, and to maintain a strong, independent USAID.
For decades, USAID support has helped its country partners to get millions more children in school, increase access to quality nutrition, put the world within reach of the end of preventable maternal and child deaths, catalyze faster progress on tuberculosis, and much more. As a longstanding champion of this work, Ambassador Green is exceedingly well-positioned to build on recent progress and move us closer to the end of poverty.
RESULTS is committed to working with Ambassador Green to make sure USAID has the policies in place and resources it needs to advance the fight against global poverty.
