Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund, issued the following statement on March 23, 2012:
Dr. Jim Kim is an inspired choice for the next president of the World Bank, and I congratulate President Obama on this forward-thinking nomination.
Jim Kim has dedicated his professional life to finding innovative ways of expanding access to essential health services to the poor, and then bringing those innovations to scale. It’s appropriate that this nomination was made on the eve of World TB Day, as Dr. Kim has been a tireless advocate and practitioner in the fight against this neglected disease of poverty. His vision is matched with a deep personal commitment and enormous practical knowledge.
I also want to offer my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Jeffery Sachs for his groundbreaking candidacy for this post. His call for a nominee that would put poverty and equity at the forefront was clearly heard by the White House.
If selected, we look forward to working with Dr. Kim to focus the World Bank on its mission of delivering concrete results for the poorest and most marginalized people on earth.
