As Rep. Holt Announces Retirement from Congress, RESULTS Celebrates His Legacy

February 19, 2014

Statement from Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund

Washington, DC, February 19, 2014—“Throughout his 15 years of service in the U.S. Congress, Representative Rush Holt (D-NJ) has been a champion in the fight against poverty and a deeply valued partner of RESULTS. His dedication, leadership, and intelligence will be missed on Capitol Hill, but his legacy as an advocate for people living in poverty will be felt for years to come.

Throughout his tenure in Congress, Rush Holt and his committed staff have stood up for the programs most effectively combatting poverty in the United States and around the world—from helping the most marginalized children in poor countries have access to free public education to helping make sure the benefits of microfinance reach the world’s poorest women. As a stalwart supporter of microfinance and the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh, he was also the lead sponsor of the House bill awarding Professor Muhammad Yunus the Congressional Gold Medal.

On behalf of the entire RESULTS family, we are immensely grateful to Representative Holt and look forward to continuing our work together against poverty long after he leaves the halls of Congress.”

RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund
RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund are sister organizations that, together, are a leading force in ending poverty in the United States and around the world. We create long-term solutions to poverty by supporting programs that address its root causes — lack of access to medical care, education, or opportunity to move up the economic ladder. We do this by empowering ordinary people to become extraordinary voices for the end of poverty in their communities, the media, and the halls of government. The collective voices of these passionate grassroots activists, coordinated with grass-tops efforts driven by our staff, leverage millions of dollars for programs and improved policies that give low-income people the tools they need to move out of poverty.
