RESULTS advocates for policies that increase access to affordable rental housing, support homeownership, and tackle the racial wealth divide in the U.S.
April is National Fair Housing Month. Housing advocates are celebrating the passage of the Fair Housing Act. Yet the federal law’s promise to promote a more equitable and integrated society remains largely unfulfilled. The lack of access to safe, decent, and affordable housing today reflects and compounds the racial inequities that have plagued this country for centuries. Congress must act now to fulfill the spirit of the Fair Housing Act.
Congress should move swiftly to build on the Administration’s proposals and craft recovery legislation focused on investing in low-income families, creating opportunity, and reducing disparities, by helping families with low incomes keep a roof over their heads and making expansions of the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) permanent.
Today a COVID relief bill is headed to the President’s desk, and it includes key changes to the tax code that will be part of cutting child poverty in half in the United States. It also includes further investment in emergency rental assistance and desperately needed relief against COVID globally.
