What the Experts on Poverty do

The Experts are leaders in the organization and provide advocates with a deeper understanding of anti-poverty issues and empower them to share their own experiences. 

The Experts lead panel discussions, speak at conferences and community events across the country, appear in local and national media coverage, and meet directly with members of Congress on Capitol Hill to push for more effective government policies to support struggling individuals and families.  

All the Experts have a wide variety of lived experience of poverty in the United States that they can speak on, including food insecurity, housing instability, homelessness, income instability, and navigating complex government anti-poverty programs.

They can provide content and training on:

• how anti-poverty programs and policy play out in real life, 
• policy changes needed to end poverty, 
• how poverty impacts oppressed communities, 
• public speaking/storytelling, 
• lobbying & building relationships with members of Congress, 
• and advocacy & organizing.
