SUMMARY:Anti-Oppression 201 Workshop: Structural Racism
DESCRIPTION:Prerequisites: It is recommended to attend Diversity & Inclusion 101 or have some significant background in anti-racism and implicit bias work before attending this workshop. \nRegistration for this workshop will allow access to Anti-Oppression 201: Structural Racism\, and Oppression: The Missing Perspectives held on Friday\, April 28 at 12:00 PM ET. Learn more about our anti-oppression workshop offerings here. \nIn this intermediate-level workshop\, we will move from self-focused\, reflective learning to understanding how social structures are based on white privilege and stereotypes in the U.S. We will reflect on our identified biases and stereotypes that may contribute to practices contributing to structural racism. Ways in which these practices can be interrupted will be addressed. Race is a social construct based on power and hierarchy. We live in a society entrenched in this structure. There is no biological connection to race. Most of us categorize people on site using our implicit biases and stereotypes. Register here. \nNote: RESULTS anti-oppression workshops and webinars are not recorded\, so we encourage you to attend if you register. The Anti-Oppression workshops listed above limit 40 participants per session. Please register to reserve your spot! In the case that you are unable to attend\, please be sure to cancel to release your spot for another volunteer. If you have any questions\, please contact Karyne Bury (kbury@results.org).

SUMMARY:Diversity & Inclusion 101: Implicit Bias\, Microaggressions and Understanding of Systemic Racism and Oppression
DESCRIPTION:Diversity and Inclusion 101 is a foundational\, 90-min workshop for all advocates in the RESULTS network. This session will connect the concepts to why diversity and inclusion are important to our grassroots movement’s success and how to apply them to the best work. The focus of the workshops will be on recognizing power\, privilege\, unconscious bias\, and stereotype representations that target inclusive and anti-racist strategies. Upon completion\, participants will be able to: 1) define critical terms such as cultural competence\, diversity\, race\, stereotypes\, unconscious bias\, power\, and privilege; 2) identify why inclusion is important; 3) describe how biases are developed and what influences them; 4) identify personal implicit biases; and 5) identify the value of disrupting implicit biases. Register here. \nBy registering for “Diversity and Inclusion 101: Implicit Bias\, Microaggressions and Understanding of Systemic Racism and Oppression\,” volunteers will have an opportunity to support Dr. Gunther’s research\, anonymously\, via participation in an optional survey before and after the workshop. \nNote: The Anti-Oppression workshops listed above limit 40 participants per session. Please register to reserve your spot! In the case that you are unable to attend\, please be sure to cancel to release your spot for another volunteer. If you have any questions\, please contact Karyne Bury (kbury@results.org).
