Co-hosted by GFAN Africa, WACI Health, Impact Santé Afrique, ACTION, Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria, and RESULTS

Last July, activists lit a candle outside a health center in Cape Town, which twenty years before was the first HIV/AIDS clinic to open its doors in partnership with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The flame from that candle then traveled through 20 countries, reaching the northern tip of the continent in Egypt before returning back to South Africa at year’s end. Each stop on the caravan brought together government leaders, members of Parliament, civil society organizations, and communities to honor the collective impact of the Global Fund partnership.

That torch caravan now crosses the Atlantic, where the U.S. White House will host the next donor pledging summit for the Global Fund.

Advocates are calling on the U.S. and other donors to do their part, investing at least $18 billion to put the Global Fund partnership’s plan into action: supporting communities to save 20 million lives and build the equitable health systems needed for the pandemics of today and of the future.

Speakers include:

Rosemary Mburu, Executive Director, WACI Health, Kenya
The Hon. Daniel Molokele, Member of Parliament, Zimbabwe
Linda Mafu, Head of Civil Society and Political Advocacy, The Global Fund
Priscilla Addo, Communities Representative, Hope for Future Generations, Ghana
Loyce Pace, Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs, Dept. of Health & Human Services, USA
Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director, RESULTS, USA

Join us for the passing of the torch.
