Why I'm part of RESULTS
My name is Errolyn Gray. I'm a RESULTS REAL Change fellow from Mississippi, which means I'm trained to become a powerful young leader for the end of poverty. I'm part of RESULTS because I want my voice to matter.
But this post isn't about me.
I want to tell you about mother, Rosalyn. Just take a few sips of coffee and read a few paragraphs. When you're done, I don't want your sympathy.
Sympathy alone doesn't create change. RESULTS creates change. Your support creates change.
My mom, Rosalyn, has had a full-time job her whole life, yet she has nothing to fall back on after a lifetime of hard work. She is the face of the working poor. An accident forced my mom to take months of unpaid medical leave. Luckily I had a job during school, so I was able to pay the bills. I realized that after all her bills were paid, she had only $25 leftover for groceries and gas. Just $25 after breaking her back all month.
We want America to be a nation where hard work leads to success. But that's not how the story unfolds for people like my mom. They work hard their whole lives. Harder than most of us ever will. They aren't lazy or stupid. They're doing their best with the hand that they've been dealt.
My mom and the millions of Americans like her are why I'm part of RESULTS.
We need your support so we can defend policies that help Americans get out of poverty and protect them from falling back into it, like the Financial Security Credit Act, which helps families accumulate the critical savings my mom badly needs.
We need your support so we can urge Congress to protect the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which help low-income working families make ends meet and are among our most successful anti-poverty programs for children.
It's not a question of whether we can afford these policies. It's a question of how we want to allocate our national wealth. There is no better investment than in our hardworking families who want to create a better future for their children.
Thanks to a generous donor, we will receive $1 for every $2 you donate, up to $50,000.
