Our Results partners are highly motivated and unyielding in their efforts to make this world a better place. Their success is a result of building concrete advocacy foundations and reaching out to media outlets and legislators in order to shape the policies that affect our country and the world. It’s always inspiring to see our volunteers in action, organizing and speaking out to make health, welfare and education for all a priority for our lawmakers.

On Saturday, October 17, we were exceptionally fortunate to have Dr. Paul Farmer from Partners In Health join us for the online 2009 RESULTS National Outreach–Stand Up Event to talk to us about the importance of building and strengthening the world’s health systems. He emphasized the importance of linking together to tackle global health challenges and the significance of advocacy in the global community.

We are pleased to announce that more than 43 different groups around the world held Outreach Stand Up events on Saturday which to say the least is a stunning and truly momentous show of support. It’s clear that we are all growing this movement day-by-day but for this event to be truly successful, follow-up is key.

First, we need to make sure to send in the Participation Forms for all new activists to our office (address to Cynthia Stancil, 750 First Street NE, Suite 1040, Washington DC 20002). We should also be inviting activists to the New Activist Training sessions (October 26, November 2, 9, 16) at 9 pm ET. Contact Lisa Marchal ASAP to sign them up. If they are not able to attend the training, please see that they are able to do the RESULTS Basics Training by visiting the New Activists section of our website and our RESULTS Musings Blog for global campaign recordings.

Next, we want to make sure to encourage those who attended our meeting to take action on our House letter to President Obama on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. We also want to encourage those who did not attend our event to take action as well. Let them know how successful the event was and encourage them to watch the Paul Farmer portion of the day. It’s crucial that everyone know when the next group meeting or event is so we can all keep the momentum going.

Having two meetings a month, providing quality training, and keeping new people in action will be key to their future involvement. With the right training, support and enthusiasm, we will inspire others to join our movement, bringing us that much closer to our goal. Together, we will make the dream of eradicating hunger and poverty a reality.
