Say it Loud and Clear: This is Our Chance to Defeat AIDS, TB & Malaria (Updated November 27)
Just after Thanksgiving this year, world leaders will converge in Washington, DC, to pledge support for the battle against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. But right now is the critical moment, before this December meeting, for RESULTS advocates to remind U.S. decision makers why what they do next month is so important.
We can win this fight.
The upcoming gathering, a pledging conference for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, marks the chance to invest in our best tool against these diseases at a historic moment in time. Armed with better data and new science, we can build on the successes of the last decade. By investing enough today, the end of the three pandemics as major public health threats could be in sight. Failure to act now would mean paying the consequences for years to come.
The U.S. government is hosting the December pledging conference, which will help the Global Fund finance treatment, prevention, and care during the critical three year window ahead. The United States has long been a leader in Global Fund support, contributing almost a third of its resources. President Obama can now cement that legacy—and challenge international donors to do more—by promising to contribute one dollar for every two dollars pledged by others throughout the next three years.
This fall, RESULTS advocates are working with local media from Asheville to Anchorage, asking for U.S. government leadership to help save countless lives. And in many places, they’ve been joined by health advocates Luwiza Makukula of Zambia and Joyce Kamwana of Malawi, whose own life stories demonstrate the Global Fund’s transformative impact far better than any statistic.
And we’re not done yet. There is still time to reach out to even more media—our mouthpiece to decision makers. With the tools below, you can push your leaders to do what it takes right now to help make this the generation that defeats AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
