On Tuesday, RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter took to Capitol Hill to testify in front of the Global Partnership for Education, Joanne reminded the subcommittee, “A U.S. contribution of $125 million to the Global Partnership for Education in 2014 would have a powerful impact on the lives of children worldwide, leverage commitments from other donors, and demonstrate our government’s commitment to improving education for all.”

With the replenishment conference for the Global Fund to Fights AIDS, TB and Malaria coming up quickly in September, Joanne stressed the importance of a robust U.S. contribution in FY14 that sets the stage for a meaningful global commitment to ending the AIDS epidemic and defeating the scourge of tuberculosis. She said, “An allocation of $1.65 billion for FY2014 would support the U.S. commitment to creating an AIDS-free generation and leverage investments in these life-saving programs from other donor resources so that these programs can be sustained and expanded.”

Child malnutrition results in the deaths of 2.5 million children each year and is a necessary component of a successful effort to achieve the U.S.’s goal of ending preventable child deaths by 2035. Joanne reminded the subcommittee that, “an allocation of $200 million for Nutrition would leverage our investments in child survival programs, setting the foundation for improved health and gains in economic development.”

Read Joanne’s full written testimony, which also calls for funding bilateral tuberculosis programs and microfinance programs focused on the very poor.

Join Joanne’s effort — deadlines are coming up quickly for members of Congress to submit their requests to the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations. Use RESULTS’ appropriations resources to make requests to your members now!
