RESULTS Canada and RESULTS Pacific Northwest Gather in Washington State

During the final weekend of February, about 50 activists and RESULTS staff members gathered in quaint, scenic Seabeck, Washington, for the annual RESULTS Canada/Pacific Northwest Regional Conference. What a joy it was to be with such a diverse crowd of enthusiastic activists, both new and seasoned. Between the towering pines and chilly temps, together we trained each other about effectively engaging congressional offices and the media in our work. We also learned  about Grameen Foundation and child vaccines. Finally, we explored how to better strengthen and expand our groups with sessions on community mapping, “quiet” leadership, fundraising and group health. In between sessions, we enjoyed tales of personal work abroad, ate well, and laughed often.

As is tradition, the host site of the gathering shifts each year. RESULTS Canada will host next year’s conference, and people are already looking forward to it. The weekend experience reinforced the notion that regional gatherings are great nourishment for the mind and heart, fueling what we do throughout the year. These connections are a much-needed opportunity to see each other face-to-face more than just at the International Conference. Has your region picked up the tradition of meeting during the year? Already there are other regional gatherings planned; Northeast U.S. groups will be meeting in April and groups from the Midwest will gather this fall. You might consider attending one of these or scheduling your own — the education, inspiration, and memories you generate are well worth the effort.
