Find Out How to Fight Poverty in Maine and Around the U.S.: Join Us in Maine February 7-11!

February 4, 2013
by Jenny Martin, New England Grassroots Organizer, U.S. Poverty Campaigns

IMPORTANT SCHEDULING NOTE: Because of an impending snowstorm in New England, the RESULTS outreach meetings in Maine February 8 through 11 have been postponed. But have no fear, we will be back in Maine when the weather improves so please make sure to contact Jenny at [email protected] about connecting with Mainers on her next trip.

Concerned about poverty in Maine and the U.S.?

What happens in Congress affects the poverty support we can offer in our communities locally, but many members of Congress report not hearing about poverty from constituents in the state or district they represent.

RESULTS volunteer groups provide you with the tools and actions to help end poverty.

If you want to work on ending poverty beyond your local food bank, come learn about a thriving network of grassroots volunteers — everyday citizens like you — who take easy but effective actions toward fighting poverty in the U.S.

Meet with Jenny Martin, New England Grassroots Organizer — U.S. Poverty Campaigns, as she visits communities in Maine February 7–11 and learn about citizen-empowering volunteer work with RESULTS!

Together, RESULTS grassroots volunteers:

  • Receive training and support from RESULTS’ experienced volunteers and staff;
  • Build important relationships with their Congress members to hold them accountable on key poverty issues;
  • Educate their communities through media on Congress is up to and where their congressional leaders stand on poverty issues; and
  • Build community coalitions and provide community opportunities to take action with Congress on key poverty issues. Our voices make the difference!

There are many different ways to get involved with RESULTS and make a difference in poverty in your community. If you have two, ten, or twenty minutes a week to give, there are actions for you to take. If ending poverty is important to you, and you can spare one and a half hours to meet twice monthly, a RESULTS group is for you! No matter what time you have, the goal is to provide you the training and support you need to take action and affect change.

We want all congressional leaders to hear from the citizens they represent! If you want to hold Maine’s members of Congress accountable, I hope you’ll join us on one of the dates below to find out how to develop one-on-one relationships with your political leaders and decision makers. Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested.
