Building Bipartisan Champions in Congress

Recently, we had our first support call for building bipartisan champions for the end of poverty. Do you have a member of Congress who seems not to be open to our issues? Feel blocked at every turn? These calls will be designed to help you define the tools you need to plan a way to empower your members of Congress to be a catalyst toward a world where poverty no longer exists. You can hear Willer on the January 2013 Citizens Climate Lobby national conference call. You might also read The Little Blue Book by George Lakoff and Elizabeth Wehling (2012).

To further help your work in this area, check out these great on-demand trainings in our RESULTS Resource Library as well as how-tos from our Activist Milestone collection:

  1. Powerpoint on initiating and building relationships with members of Congress.
  2. Powerpoint on generating poverty editorials, op-eds and letters to the editor.
  3. The RESULTS Champion Scale, a helpful tool for assessing where your member of Congress is on an issue (as well as how you can move them forward in leadership).

What are your thoughts? What support do you need in this area? Feel free to comment!
