Tacoma RESULTS group takes a cruiseAn idea at one of our group brainstorming sessions materialized into a fun, innovative outreach cruise on the Sea Scout vessel SSS Charles N. Curtis. With our collaborative group leadership model in place, David Corner took charge of arrangements with the ship’s captain and the luncheon caterers; and the rest of us got busy inviting. Laura Marshall sent out E-vites and Noel and Bill Hagens, Liz Schroedel, and Phyllis Bjorkman called to personally invite and then to remind.

Beautiful September 20 at 2:15 pm. Thirty of us besides the crew boarded the Curtis for the cruise from Foss Waterway in Tacoma to Gig Harbor. While our very professional navigation crew of Sea Scouts, all under the age of 18, were getting the ship underway, the captain gave us a brief safety talk and information about the Curtis and its crew. The 2-1/2 hour cruise took us through interesting harbors, beautiful seascape with seal, bald eagles, and other beautiful birds; and Mount Rainier majestically towering over the southeast sky.

Guests thanked us during and after the trip for inviting them. Being such a sunny beautiful day was a bonus. This was not a fundraising event, but it could be a great one in the future. Liz acquainted each visitor on the voyage with RESULTS and gave them current information about our meetings. New and old friends enjoyed getting together and we plan on including them in future events.
